Why we do what we do

It has been a while since we updated. The year 2010 has seen a brighter start. We are glad to share the spectacular news about one of our lovely dogs that was given an opportunity of a lifetime just like the many candles of hope we continue to offer to the many that stay with us at Pets villa.

Dalmay’s  tale

Dalmay like may old dogs, suffer the cruel fate of being abandoned and left to fend for themselves when they are old and their owners would no longer like to care for them. Despite our financial strains and difficulty in feeding all the animals we house and the many more on the streets, Dalmay was taken in. Dalmay came in with an awful problem of arthritis and found difficulty walking. At the same time, her lovely personality made her a target of bullying. Dalmay finally found a lovely spot at Pets villa to rest and relax eventually.

One lovely day, an amazing lady came along and offered to volunteer her services and help with the feeding and cleaning, a job few would offer to do. This lovely lady soon realised she would have to return to Germany, her home. She knew that there was a special dog at Pets Villa she could take home to remind her of all the many lovely other animals we house. Kira fell in love with Dalmay and Dalmay’s life changed from that moment on. From being abandoned cruelly by her owners to the opportunity of a life time to live her senior years out in Germany, we could not be happier for Dalmay. We will always be grateful to Kira for showing our Dalmay that love does exist despite all Dalmay has been through. We tell this tale to show the love and hope we constantly try to offer to the abandoned and unloved of our society, please help us continue with our work. These pictures say it all.

From shelter grounds to snow, what more could Dalmay ask for? We hope to continue to offer hope to the many on our streets who long for love and care. Help us help them!

ALL’s  Sterilization programme

At the same time, we would like to highlight the plight of several of the strays on the street that we have been trying to help. We continue to work on our sterilisation programme to prevent the number of strays on our streets from increasing. However, the sterilising programme requires lots of time, effort and money to keep it going. We hope to see Singapore free of litters and litters of new born puppies. Being born a stray, living the life of a stray and dying a stray is a life of pain, hunger and suffering. We wish we could take in all. Sadly, we can only do what is within our limits. Please support our sterilisation efforts.

We give them all names as they are all special. Betsy is crazy about visitors and she loves chicken. She is young and has yet to see the cruelty of life. She would fit into any home but would people see beyond her being a stray? Mummy is distant. She eats her food but watches us closely. Daddy is always moping. He got into a dog fight recently. Thankfully, we had medication on hand and the wound has healed. Tina is a beauty. She runs at lightning speed when she hears her name. She is skinny. We offer her food first but she does not eat yet. Instead, she demands a pat and wants to give us a lick. How do we say “We can’t take you home”? Foxy wandered from far away and gave birth the next day, before we could have her sterilised. She is very cautious. She does not really like the human touch. She watches her litter carefully as she gulps down her food. Her puppies look cold on the sand but the metal poles are too sharp and dangerous for us to climb under. We do not know what we will do with her puppies when they start walking around. Who will take them in? Are there enough forever homes for them? Then, there is Maddy. Maddy is naughty. We feed after work as he always jumps and leaves a paw print behind. Sadly, Maddy’s sisters are terrified of humans. We put down the food and walk a distance away. They come crawling out in fear as they gobble down the food. We wonder who or what they fear. Sadly, there is little comfort we can offer. There is also Veve. She does not fit in. The dogs do not like her. She comes every three days for a meal. She gobbles it down and off she goes. Sometimes we wonder, what is it like without a home? However, we know we have no more room in ours for her. There is also Holly. Holly is submissive. We took her along with others for sterilisation. Holly was the best. No need for a muzzle, however, she demanded for a pat or cuddle at the vet. Now, she waits daily for her food. Sometimes we wonder if she knows how we wish we could find her a warm home to go to. Holly is a beauty, we have never met a girl so precious. There are so many others we could write about, the list goes on. We will upload their pictures soon.

A litter born into a harsh cruel world

Many of these strays jump with joy to see a packet of food. The brave ones rush forward for a pat or jump. While those who have been ill treated or hurt, stare blankly from a distance, hoping to fill their stomachs for the day. We will not let them die hungry. However, you can help us prevent unwanted litters through sterilization. These dogs deserve far more. Help us help them. Support our sterilisation programme to end the suffering. Photos of our work will be up in two days.

Each visit to the vet costs us approximately $200:

$50- Two way transport

$130-(Sterilisation Cost varies according to size/if dog is pregnant or on heat)

Any amount helps. Each dollar counts towards stopping the birth of another litter and preventing the vicious cycle of suffering of another stray on our streets.

If you are able and willing to help or you would like to find out more about how you can help with our sterilisation programme, please send us an email at general@animalloversleague.com.

A Senior Silky Terrier, abandoned by his owners creully. He now has a lump and needs an operation to remove it.

A Pomeranian thrown into a nearby jungle and left to fend for himself

Mao Mao has pulled through each set back, now he faces yet another lump growing in his paw which inhibits movement. Without the operation, he cannot walk due to the pain he feels as his paw touches the ground. Can you help Mao Mao?

Appeal for food and shampoo

Finally, we have run low on cat dry food and can food as well as dog can food. The cats eat any brand of dry food and enjoy Aristiocat can food. The dogs love Natures Gift and Divine can food. We have also run low on medicated shampoo, Sebolyse and Alloveen which several of our dogs need as they suffer from skin problems. If you are able and willing to help us keep them alive, do drop us an email at general@animalloversleage.com or contact Christine @ 97937162 to donate. If you would like to have the food delivered, we are located at Pasir Ris Famway 3, Number 61.

Thank you so much for offering hope to these animals! Do continue to support our efforts and help us help them!
