You can call me biased – as I have owned a wonderful, well-behaved cat for many years – but I would argue that cats make perfect domestic companions in this fast-paced life we live.
They are well adapted to looking after themselves and are generally very quiet and unassuming. Provide them with good food, a few toys, some place soft to sleep, a litter tray for doing their necessaries – and of course a loving home – and they can amuse themselves for hours.
As one person put it ‘dogs have owners, cats have servants’. So if you don’t mind ‘serving’ your cat, then you’re all set for a beautiful relationship. I know because I’ve been happily serving my cat for nearly 11 years – from tiny kitten to old lady!
Sadly, many people don’t get to realize this kind of connection with cats. They are often misunderstood – labeled as pests – and abused. Or they are neglected and abandoned.
As a new volunteer at Pets Villa, I’ve already seen many examples of so-called ‘community cats’ rescued from being put to sleep after residents in their block complained about them. Other cats are brought in with health problems following abuse or neglect by their owners.
Life for the humble feline on the streets is tough and it is heartbreaking to see desperately ill, emaciated cats brought to Pets Villa who – despite all efforts – sadly don’t make it.
But at the Animal Lovers League, the aim is to offer hope. To at least give these cats a chance. To give them the love and care so many didn’t get from the life they had before.
But we cannot do it without help from you. You may not be in a position to re-home a cat, but you can help through donations and sponsorship.
Sponsoring a cat will pay for their food, care and any medication they need. Sponsorship will also pay for necessary sterilisation and vaccinations.
In this Year of the Tiger, we should not forget the plight of many of its smaller cousins, some of whom have never experienced a friendly human hand or face – and for whom life will be about survival – rather than a place to call home.
Please show your understanding. Help us to help these wonderful felines and be a part of their future health and happiness.
Let me introduce you to some of our friendly faces – and to those who really need your support

This cat is gradually recovering from an ordeal only she knows but we will do all we can to make her better

He is very shy and wary of humans… The ears are flat and the cat is ready to defend any impending attack.

Sponsoring a cat and helping to pay for its food and stay at Pets Villa costs only $50 a month. We are also urgently appealing for volunteers to help out at the cat side any day, any time. Also, food donation of can food and dry food for the cats is most appreciated. If you can help the lovely cats at Pets Villa in any way, please send us an email at general@animalloversleague.com . Help us keep them alive.
